I am very pleased that 2 Canadian teams remain in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. There has not been a Canadian winner in the Stanley Cup since 1993 when the Canadiens defeated the Kings. This is a crazy thought given that Canada is the hockey nation and comprises the majority of NHL fans. In fact, this year CBC has gotten almost 1.3 million viewers for each playoff game, while the Versus Network in the United States has had 543,000 viewers per game. Canada has a population of just over 30 million, while the United States has a population of over 300 million, yet still we have more viewers in our proud nation.
Canada only makes up 6 of the 30 NHL teams, however does that not mean we should win a cup every 5 years? Our proud nation boasts several World Junior, and Olympic Gold medals during this time, but the fact remains that we need a cup to come home to Canada! Montreal and Vancouver are the 2 Canadian teams left in these playoffs, so as a nation we should support their effort.
The Stanley Cup is Canada’ Superbowl. It is a historical trophy that dates all the way back to 1892! For the last 118 years the Stanley Cup has stood as the symbol of hockey supremacy. It is just under 3-feet tall and 34.5 pounds. It is no easy task to get it, as teams have to endure an 82-game season, and win 16 grueling playoff games. This is what makes it even more gratifying to finally have the chance to lift the Cup over your head in victory. So, I like most Canadians would love to see a member of the Montreal Canadiens or Vancouver Canucks lift what should be a Canadian possession over their heads this spring.
In order to help them get there, support is needed. Log onto FanXchange.com and buy your Habs and Canucks playoff tickets now! They are going quickly and we need the extra patriotic support!
